I’m Tony from the Bitcoin Way.
Today we’re going to be taking a quick look at one of the finest seed plates on the market, the crypto tag, Zeus.
I’ll give you my insights on it and where I think it could be improved.
Stay tuned, it’s going to be fun.
One of the most important things in bitcoin, in being your own bank, is ensuring that your seed phrase is absolutely secure and safe.
Without your seed phrase, you have no access to your bitcoin.
And if someone else finds it, well, then they have access to your coins as well. So you need to put a lot of thought into making sure that that scenario never manifests.
And cryptotag offers an innovative way of doing so.
And we’ll get into it in just a moment.
Opening the box, you can tell that this is a very high quality product.
They offer a pamphlet which contains a list of all the BIP 39 words and their numerical equivalents, which will become valuable in just a minute.
They also provide sheets of paper that you can temporarily write down your seed phrase on before stamping them on this incredibly high quality titanium plates. You can tell that a lot of thought has been put into this product just by the way it feels.
It’s got a good weight to it and just taking it out, you can tell that this is going to be a product that’s going to stand the test of time with regards to fire, corrosion and what have you.
A high quality puncher is also included for obvious reasons.
They also give you earplugs.
Presumably this will be loud once the punching begins.
And last but not least, a set of matches.
Why matches? Well, to burn the evidence once you’re done, stamping them on this plate.
Your seed phrase is based on an industry standard list of BIP 39 words.
There’s 2048 words and the combination of all your seat phrases come from that list.
Now, this list of words is available in this booklet, but should you lose this, you can easily find them online.
Where Zeus is innovative is that it doesn’t allow you to straight out punch your words into the plate.
And that’s a good thing.
To subvert an ignorant, bad actor, someone who has no idea about bitcoin or seed phrases to begin with, will have no idea what to do with a bunch of numbers. So from a security perspective, that’s definitely a good thing.
So how does this work? Well, if we’re going to use a random word, just for the sake of this demo, let’s use the word seven.
For example, if you look at the word seven, you’ll see that to the left, it has a number equivalent, which is 1574.
Right? So what you would do is that on this sheet of paper, you would write down, you know, that word here, seven, and you’d write down the number equivalent, which is 1574.
Now, you want to take your time with this to ensure that you don’t mix up the numbers or inadvertently write the incorrect one.
Because once it’s punched into this plate, then it’s punched. So take your time and go through the list, writing down all your seed phrase, matching it with the equivalent number, double check, triple check, if you have to.
And then once that’s done, then we can move on to punching them onto the plates. For the sake of this video, I’m only going to use one random word here. So I’ve chosen seven, and the numerical equivalent is 1574.
Now, what you want to do is carefully punch each one of these digits into the plate.
So if you look at the number one field, there’s four sections, one for each number. I’ve already done the first one off camera.
I will show you the second one.
So the second number here is the number five.
So what you would do is carefully place the puncher on the number five.
So once you carefully place the puncher on the right number, you just press straight down, exerting enough force, obviously, for it to punch.
Be careful, it might be loud, which is why they provide these earplugs.
Done. As you can see, the number five here is punched, and then you’d move on to the next one and so forth.
So I’ve gone ahead and I’ve punched the four digits here.
And once it’s done, it looks something like this.
You can clearly see there’s four holes in the corresponding numbers.
So take your time, write down all your seed phrase, find their numerical equivalents, and carefully punch the numbers in the right place.
And then once that’s completed, what you would need to do is double check that the numbers that you’ve punched actually correspond back to the word of your seat phrase.
This is a very important step, so don’t rush through it.
Take your time, make sure everything syncs up, because this is your seed phrase, you want no mistakes on this.
One small thing to note, if you find that the holes that are punched here are too small, you can go ahead and punch another one in the same space.
There’s enough room to make a double punch, which will slightly expand the hole here.
That’s optional in case you find this a little too small to read.
After you’ve completed the punching of all your words onto the plates and you’ve double checked or triple checked to make sure everything corresponds, then all you need to do is to put the plates back, one on top of the other, and to lock them back in place with the provided clips.
If you’ve purchased the optional cover, take the plates and slide them right in. Finalizing your setup.
Now, one last important step has to do with the matches.
Take your papers, put them in a safe place and burn them so that there’s no trace of them whatsoever.
So some closing thoughts about this product.
Do I like it?
Absolutely. It’s an extremely well made seed plate that you can rely on to safeguard your seed phrase.
It’s resistant to fire, water, corrosion, all of these things.
But here’s the thing.
The product’s responsibility ends in safeguarding your seed words, but your responsibility begins in ensuring that, one, you don’t lose this, and two, no one finds this.
That’s on you.
There is no company out there that will guarantee that, for obvious reasons.

The plates have the company’s logo and name for obvious reasons.
However, from a security standpoint, this gives a big clue as to what this is about.
So for an end user concerned about the utmost security, having the option to buy this product, perhaps without any of this, would be a plus.
Or perhaps giving them the option to customize this to something else that isn’t as evident, pointing to what it’s safeguarding.
