Futurama, which is a very intelligent show that I love and have rewatched plenty of times over the years, has done an episode on Bitcoin.
The exciting prospect of Bitcoin for the general public. The thrilling episode, cleverly named “How the West Was 1010001,” sees our favorite Bender and his courageous crew set off on an audacious escapade to the wild West. Their objective? To plunge into the thrilling realm of Bitcoin mining, an environment where wealth is accumulated and legends are formed. Brace yourself to observe their adventurous exploits as they traverse unknown territories and confront a host of obstacles. Guided by Bender, the crew journey westward to get involved in the Bitcoin mining craze. Despite its crypto-exclusive premise, the episode’s synopsis implies that it should appeal to all viewers, even those inexperienced in the cryptocurrency world.
Rusty is the butt-end of many ass jokes in this episode.
In it, our crew goes on a crazy adventure in a Wild West land where the bitcoin miners are. The people have no electricity to spare because it’s all being used to mine bitcoin. And they go there to mine thalium, which is used in bitcoin mining chips, to sell for microbitcoin to pay off their debts to the Robot Mafia. It all makes sense if you watch the episode.
But what I wanted to point out was that they ignored the sats vs bits debate, naturally, since the writers relied on classic FUD to make a joke, and called it microbitcoin.
So, debate over, Adam Back and Giacomo Zucco.
And like Libby says, sats are the standard.
All in all, despite their FUD and the jokes, it was a good episode. We’ll see bitcoin taking over mainstream media more and more over the years, with plenty of FUD to go along with it.
