The Bitcoin Standard is a book that has been a real eye-opener for me. I discovered it from a podcast on Rich Dad and found it extremely informative.
You’ll find me talking about the stuff I learnt from this book a lot. How the gold standard has worked through the ages, how ditching it caused the bloody world wars, and how Bitcoin seems to be the next standard to build upon. Saifedean Ammous does not say that gold is not a valid investment, on the contrary he spends 7 entire chapters of the book detailing why gold is an awesome investment and how civilizations that built upon it thrived through the ages. As I understand it, all he’s saying is that Bitcoin shows some of the qualities of gold as store-of-value, and solves the issue of sending large amounts around the world. He then goes on to explain a lot of questions about bitcoin, the threats against it (though he leaves out quantum computing which is a real threat in my opinion), and as I understand it tells us how both the Gold and the Bitcoin standard can help us achieve sound money.
The way I see it, whether you believe in the value of Bitcoin or not, you should read this book. It will help you truly understand Bitcoin as currency and how it might change the world.
