Since it will likely land here on Twitter soon anyway:
I have recommended the removal of Luke Dashjr from the BIP Editors to the mailing list.
The motion, posted by Murch to the Bitcoin Development Mailing List, is a formal recommendation to remove Luke Dashjr from his role as a Bitcoin Improvement Proposal (BIP) Editor.
Why the motion was filed:
- Luke has been involved in contentious disputes for years, culminating in a new forking coin.
- He was heavily involved in BIP110 (the proposal that led to the fork) and used his authority as an Editor to unfairly favor his own proposal.
- He assigned a BIP number publicly on Twitter before the mailing list discussion started.
- He merged a Pull Request updating the BIP within minutes of it being opened.
- Since April 2024 (when new editors started), Luke has contributed less than 1% of BIP Editor comments. His last merge was in May 2024.
- Communication has broken down. He tried to side-step the process by assigning a BIP number out of band.
The grounds for removal:
- Conflict of interest.
- Neglecting the workload.
- Championing a soft fork that represents a departure from the Bitcoin ecosystem.
- Broken trust, communication, and coordination.

The guy who spent a week telling everyone his hard fork is "real Bitcoin" just got the editorship removed from under him. The BIP process exists precisely so one person cannot hijack Bitcoin’s direction with a Twitter announcement and a rushed merge.
Bitcoin survives because the process is bigger than any single ego. When one editor starts assigning numbers out of band and merging his own proposals in minutes, the process corrects itself.
