SWISS BITCOIN PAY CALLS ITSELF ‘NON-CUSTODIAL’ — THEN LEAKED YOUR IBAN, YOUR EMAIL, AND YOUR ENTIRE SPENDING HISTORY

They sold you the dream: "non-custodial." We never touch your coins. That was the whole pitch of Swiss Bitcoin Pay — the payment processor for bitcoin-accepting businesses — your funds were never in their hands.

Then Monday came. Malicious access to their internal systems. Servers shut down. And now the breach list is out: customer email addresses, bitcoin addresses, IBANs, transaction histories, and hashed passwords.

Your IBAN. Your bank account number. Your entire bitcoin spending history. Sitting on a "non-custodial" processor.

But hey — "user funds are safe." That’s the line. User funds are safe, so who cares that your identity, your banking details, and a map of every business you ever paid with bitcoin are now in the hands of whoever walked into their systems?

This isn’t bad luck. It’s a pattern. Revolut already leaked passports, driver’s licenses, and verification selfies in a breach that handed customer KYC to an unauthorized party. Trezor’s own marketing vendor got popped, and now phishing gangs are hunting 347,000 hardware wallet owners. SafePal leaked nearly 40,000 customers’ order data. Ledger’s payment processor was hit back in January. Every single point of "convenience" between you and your bitcoin is a honeypot for your identity.

And that’s the part they never tell you. "Non-custodial" doesn’t mean they don’t hold YOUR data. It just means they don’t hold your COINS. They still collect your identity, your bank account, your spending history — and they treat that data like it costs them nothing. Until it leaks.

Self-custody isn’t just about protecting your bitcoin. It’s about protecting the trail that leads back to you. Every intermediary you trust is another way for someone else to find out who you are, where you bank, and what you spend.

The only entity that can’t leak your IBAN is the one that never asked for it.

Take control. Get your coins off every wallet, exchange, and processor that knows more about you than your own mother does. Learn to self-custody. Take control.

And tell me this: if a "non-custodial" processor still held your IBAN and your entire spending history, what exactly did "non-custodial" ever protect?
