YOUR “CHARITY” WASTES MILLIONS ON OVERHEAD. THIS ONE MOVED $36.6 MILLION IN BITCOIN FOR $12.51

You know what your "favorite charity" is really doing with your donations? Paying for gala dinners, six-figure CEO salaries, and a marketing department that begs you for more money every December.

Then OpenSats just did something that should embarrass every suit in the charity-industrial complex.

The 501(c)(3) public charity announced it has allocated over $36.6 million to 413 grantees across more than 40 countries. And here’s the part that will make your blood boil: every single dollar went directly to recipients. OpenSats runs a 100% pass-through funding model. Its own operations are paid for separately, by sources designated for that purpose. The grant money flows through, untouched.

Still think "overhead" is unavoidable? In Q2 2026, OpenSats sent 36 BTC to grantees and paid $12.51 in total transaction fees. Twelve dollars and fifty-one cents to move millions. Meanwhile a bank wire for a fraction of that sum costs more, takes three business days, and gets stuck in "fraud review" while some compliance officer grabs coffee.

This is Bitcoin telling the legacy system to get the hell out of the way.

When your bank can freeze your account for nothing (we covered that here), Bitcoin is the escape route. When international charity payments cost hundreds of dollars in wire fees, Bitcoin is the escape route. OpenSats just proved it with receipts.

The organization runs two grant pools. The General Fund backs Bitcoin development and adjacent open-source tooling. The Nostr Fund supports builders on the decentralized social protocol. Monthly disbursements average around $1 million, and transaction fees run under 0.001% of amounts sent.

Who’s behind it? Jack Dorsey’s #startsmall initiative and the Reynolds Foundation, both writing multimillion-dollar checks. A nine-person board governs the operation, which publishes its financial statements, bylaws, and grantee progress reports on a regular basis. That’s what accountability looks like. Your bank won’t even show you its fee schedule without a lawyer.

For Bitcoin, this matters more than the headline number. 413 builders in 40+ countries working on Bitcoin Core, Nostr clients, privacy tools, educational resources, and infrastructure code. A transparent, independent institution funding the protocol’s future so no single corporate backer gets to steer it. For years, a handful of companies effectively controlled developer funding. This is the antidote.

Here’s what you’re actually funding when you stack sats: rails that move millions for pocket change. Don’t just read about it, get your first Bitcoin at loveisbitcoin.com/bull and use coupon LOVEISBITCOIN.

Your bank charges you EUR 15 to transfer your own money. Your "charity" swallows a third of every donation. OpenSats moved $36.6 million for $12.51.

So the question is simple: how much longer are you going to pay the middlemen to do what Bitcoin does for the price of a burger?
