They froze Iran’s stablecoins in April. So Iran went full Bitcoin. Now the DOJ is investigating the world’s biggest exchange for letting it happen.
Bloomberg reports federal prosecutors, including the US Department of Justice, are probing whether Binance knowingly allowed Iran-linked entities to trade on its platform, dodging American sanctions.
This is the same government that froze the Iranian regime’s crypto and bragged about it mostly being Tether’s USDT. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said it himself: the frozen crypto was stablecoin. Controllable. Obedient.
Then Iran’s central bank told its people to do "anything necessary" to keep the economy alive. The Financial Times reports Iran is settling cross-border transactions with Bitcoin through Iranian exchanges. Iran even started a bitcoin-backed insurance service for its shipping companies.
Why? Because Bitcoin cannot be frozen.
Read that sentence again. Stablecoins can be frozen. Bank accounts can be frozen. Your exchange balance can be frozen. Bitcoin cannot. That’s not a bug. That’s the entire point of the thing.
So what does Washington do? It designates an Iranian exchange under something called "Operation Economic Outcast" and opens a probe into Binance for the crime of being useful to people the US government doesn’t like.
Never mind that Binance already paid $4.3 billion for its sins. Never mind that its founder pled guilty and then got pardoned by the president. The message is clear: they don’t hate Binance. They hate the money they can’t control.
And here’s the part they will never say out loud: Iran is not the problem for them. Iran is the proof. If a sanctioned country under total economic siege can still move value with Bitcoin, then the entire financial cage has a door. And the day they freeze your stablecoins, the day they flag your bank account, you will want that door too.
We told you about Iran’s $10 billion Bitcoin pivot before the regime made it official policy. The pieces were always there.

So here’s the question: the US froze Iran’s stablecoins in hours. What makes you think your "savings" in a stablecoin or a bank account survives the day they decide you are the target?
