THE TALIBAN BANNED BITCOIN AS A SCAM — IT’S THE ONLY MONEY THEY CAN’T CONTROL

The Taliban has declared war on Bitcoin.

"Fraudulent." "Damaging to ordinary users." "A scam." That is the official line from a regime that froze its own people out of the global financial system — and is now outlawing the only money it cannot control.

The receipts

Da Afghanistan Bank, the central bank the Taliban controls, just slapped a nationwide ban on digital-asset trading. It applies to businesses and individual traders alike. Keep trading and you face prosecution. The religious scholars called it first: cryptocurrency is "haram," they said, because it resembles wagering.

In Herat — Afghanistan’s crypto capital, home to four of the country’s six major brokerages — the police moved in. More than 20 digital-asset businesses were shut down. Thirteen dealers were arrested, most released on bail. The head of the police counter-crime unit put it plainly: traders were ordered to stop handling "fraudulent digital currencies like what is commonly referred to as Bitcoin."

Why Afghans actually use Bitcoin

Nobody in Herat adopted crypto for lambo memes. After the 2021 takeover, US sanctions froze Afghanistan’s foreign reserves and severed its banking links. Ordinary people could not get paid, could not save, could not send money home. Crypto and dollar stablecoins became the lifeline: the one way to receive value, move remittances, and keep wealth out of the Taliban’s reach.

Bitcoin is not a scam to the people who live under this regime. It is the only bank that cannot be seized, the only savings account with no government branch manager. The "digital gold" story is not a meme to someone who cannot trust a single institution in their country.

The real crime

That is what this ban is actually about. Self-custody means a citizen controls his own money — and a government cannot tax it, freeze it, or seize it. The Taliban does not fear Bitcoin because Afghans lose money. It fears Bitcoin because Afghans escape control. Read that police quote again: the state wants to stop individuals from trading. Not to protect them. To control them.

And before you file this under "their problem": compare notes. The US government lost or misused Bitcoin in its own custody, and the West is building KYC dragnets, capital controls and exchange blacklists while the excuses multiply. The regime changes. The instinct does not.

Do something about it

If you want money no regime can touch, hold your own keys — and stop leaving them on exchanges. Buy from a non-custodial exchange and keep your Bitcoin in your own wallet. Bull Bitcoin is the non-custodial route: use coupon LOVEISBITCOIN at https://loveisbitcoin.com/bull.

The Taliban says Bitcoin is a scam it must protect Afghans from. What do you think YOUR government calls the money it cannot control?
