Tim Draper — the venture capitalist who bought 29,656 Bitcoin at the Silk Road auction in 2014, the guy who told the world Bitcoin would hit a quarter million dollars — is selling his private island resort. For cows.
Not metaphorically. The offers are literally coming in as cattle.
Back in August he posted the listing on X: "Gorgeous place, but we don’t use it enough. $7.9 million or best offer." The 110-acre Lupita Island resort in Lake Tanganyika — 10 thatched-roof cottages, spa, gym, private plunge pools, a 46-foot boat, built for roughly $6 million and opened in 2008 — went up for sale.
And the world answered with the most unhinged offers imaginable: gold mines. Houses. CATTLE. And one guy who threw out $1 with a promise to pay the rest later.
Sounds funny. Here’s the part that isn’t.
Tanzania’s Ministry of Lands just announced that Lupita Island is PUBLIC land. It is held by the Tanzania Investment and Special Economic Zones Authority. Foreign investors don’t own land in Tanzania — full stop. Draper’s company, Firelight Safaris Limited, holds a "derivative right" — a 99-year lease — to build and operate the resort. That’s it.
So the "billionaire selling his island" is actually a billionaire selling the buildings and a lease on an island that was never his. The state owns the dirt. Always did. Always will.
Now ask yourself: if a man whose portfolio backs Hotmail, Tesla, SpaceX and Coinbase — a man who has been holding a bag of 30,000 Bitcoin since 2014 — cannot actually OWN an island he built with six million dollars of his own money… what the hell makes you think you own anything?
Your house is a lease on government land with extra steps. Your bank account is an IOU from a corporation. Your "assets" are someone else’s database entries. The only thing in the entire financial universe that you can own outright, irrevocably, without a government’s permission slip, is the Bitcoin in a wallet whose keys only you hold.
That’s the whole game. Draper’s island was never his — a piece of paper said he could use it for 99 years. Your Bitcoin can be yours forever — if you don’t leave it on an exchange and don’t let anyone sell you "custody."
The state will never tell you that. The banks will never tell you that. The guy selling you gold-plated "asset protection" definitely won’t tell you that.
Take control. Stack sats, hold your own keys, and don’t let anyone — government, bank, or "best offer" — stand between you and what’s yours. Get started at loveisbitcoin.com/bull and use coupon LOVEISBITCOIN when you buy.
So here’s the question: if even a billionaire can’t own an island, only rent it from the state for a century — why are you still renting your freedom from a bank? What’s YOUR exit plan?
