THE BROKER THAT SAID BITCOIN WASN’T AN ASSET CLASS JUST LISTED 9 CRYPTO ETNs — AND YOU STILL DON’T OWN A SINGLE SAT

You remember, right? Eleven months ago the suits told you Bitcoin was a toy. Hargreaves Lansdown — the broker your parents’ generation trusts with their pension, the gateway to two million UK accounts — looked at Bitcoin and said, politely, that it didn’t consider it an asset class.

Now they’re selling it to you.

The Facts

On September 3, Hargreaves Lansdown listed NINE Bitcoin and Ethereum ETNs on its Advanced Investing platform, from issuers including BlackRock’s iShares, WisdomTree, 21Shares, Invesco, CoinShares and Bitwise. Annual fees range from zero to 0.35%. Two million UK investors just got "Bitcoin exposure" parked next to their ISA. This was splashed across the Financial Times, and everyone in the City pretended it was a normal Tuesday.

Let’s not pretend this is love. This is capitulation.

The FCA reopened crypto ETNs to retail investors in October 2025. Bitcoin was trading near $125,000. Hargreaves stayed out — "we don’t consider bitcoin an asset class," it sniffed. Then Bitcoin crashed to $58,000 in June. And now, with the price clawed back to around $80,000, the gatekeeper finally opens the doors.

They waited out the panic. They waited for the discount. And now they’ll happily sell you the same asset they called a non-asset — with an "appropriateness assessment," a 24-hour cooling-off period, and a fee on top. Because you, the retail pleb, need protection from the dangerous thing they now profit from.

Why This Is Your Problem

Read the fine print. You don’t get Bitcoin. You get a note. A promise that tracks the price. Hargreaves’ own sales pitch says it: ETNs give you exposure "without requiring investors to hold crypto directly, manage private keys or use a digital asset exchange."

That’s the whole game in one sentence. THEY keep custody. THEY hold the keys. YOU hold a piece of paper that follows the price like a shadow. And when the counterparty sneezes, your "exposure" catches pneumonia. That’s not Bitcoin. That’s a bank’s opinion of Bitcoin, wrapped in a management fee.

London is already a laggard — about $1.5 billion in crypto ETN volume since the FCA reopened the door (9x the previous 17 months), still a sixth of Germany’s Xetra. The suits aren’t leading this market. They’re late to it, and they’re charging you for their lateness.

And don’t think this stops at the City. In Japan, listed company Remixpoint just sold EVERY altcoin it owned — 901 ETH, 13,920 SOL, 1.19 million XRP, 2.8 million DOGE — for $5.54 million, booked a $743,000 profit, and went bitcoin-only: roughly 1,506 BTC, with plans to center its holdings and future operations around Bitcoin. It gave up $188,000 a year in staking income to do it. Not for a note. For the real thing.

The Love Is Bitcoin Takeaway

Two worlds just collided in one week. In one, a company that actually did the work concentrates everything into Bitcoin — the hardest money ever created, fully under its control. In the other, a broker that sneered at Bitcoin for a year now sells you a "safer" wrapper so you can own the price without owning the asset.

Bitcoin doesn’t need Hargreaves’ permission, an "appropriateness assessment," or a 24-hour cooling-off period. It needs YOU — your keys, your wallet, your discipline. That’s the one thing they can’t sell you, because it doesn’t generate a fee.

If you’re going to hold Bitcoin, hold Bitcoin. Skip the middleman with the risk warning. Get your coins off the exchange and into a wallet you control — and when you buy, don’t let the fees eat what Bitcoin gives you. Buy through Bull Bitcoin with coupon LOVEISBITCOIN (https://loveisbitcoin.com/bull) — you keep the actual Bitcoin, not a bank’s promissory note.

The question they don’t want you to ask: if Britain’s biggest broker spent a year calling Bitcoin a non-asset and now sells nine Bitcoin products to two million customers — was it lying to you then, or is it lying to you now?
