Luke Dashjr just called your Bitcoin **Spamcoin**. Then he quit OCEAN, the mining pool he co-founded specifically to “fix” Bitcoin mining. And tomorrow — September 1 — his broken fork gets a second chance to prove he was right.
Spoiler: it isn’t.
**The fork that died in two blocks**
You remember this clown show. Back in August, Dashjr’s BIP-110 crowd declared war on the main chain because they don’t like people writing data to blocks they don’t control. They fired themselves into the [BIP-110 censorship gate](https://loveisbitcoin.com/bip-110-censorship-gate-bitcoin-divided/), started rejecting blocks, and the result was glorious: **2.53% miner support**. Less than three percent of the people who actually secure Bitcoin told them to get stuffed.
Their chain mined exactly **two blocks** and flatlined. Bitcoin didn’t blink. It kept doing what it has done for 17 years: producing blocks, settling transactions, ignoring tantrums.
**The reboot nobody asked for**
So now what? Do they accept the market’s verdict and go home? Of course not. They’re changing the algorithm instead of changing the pitch.
The new plan, launching a testnet **tomorrow, September 1**: a hard fork that replaces Bitcoin’s SHA-256d proof-of-work with **BLAKE2b**. New algorithm, same dream — block production ripped away from the miners who rejected them.
Here’s the catch that makes this delicious: **every single Bitcoin ASIC on Earth is useless on their new chain.** Every miner, every farm, every industrial rig — all of it runs SHA-256d and nothing else. The BLAKE2b chain needs hashpower from CPUs, GPUs, or hardware that doesn’t exist yet. The proposed starting difficulty needs around **870 terahash per second**. Their own testnet discussion was hoping for **50 to 70 TH/s**. Do the math. They’re asking for sixteen times more security than they can even dream of bootstrapping.
**Nobody is coming to the party**
Name one supporter. Go ahead. As of today: **no major exchange, no widely used wallet, no custodian, no block explorer, and no Lightning implementation** has committed to supporting this chain. Without a trading venue there is no price. Without a price there is no reason to hold. Without a reason to hold there is no chain.
Even Ripple’s David Schwartz — **Ripple**, the boogeyman every Bitcoiner learned to distrust — spent August 31 on X telling BIP-110’s cheerleaders to stop pretending the main chain needs “fixing.” When the CTO of Ripple is the voice of reason in your Bitcoin debate, your debate is over.
**He begged the people he insulted**
Then there’s the kicker. On August 29, Dashjr reportedly called on miners to **power down their hash rate** for his dress-rehearsal test. The same miners he brands spam. The same miners who told him no with 97.47% of the vote. He asked the people he insulted to switch off the security of the network he calls broken — so his dead fork could have a dry run.
While he was at it, Bitcoin was having its **best month since November 2024** — up roughly 25% in August, trading near $78,800. The “spamcoin” outperformed everything his crowd told you to trust.
**What you actually need to do: nothing**
Read the project’s own FAQ: *”Your addresses, keys, and coins stay the same. You do not need to move bitcoin before the fork.”* They wrote that themselves, and it happens to be true of every chain split. Your balance hangs on your keys. A fork doesn’t change them.
But here’s the real lesson, because these events are scam-magnets: **there is nothing to claim, nothing to register, nothing to unlock.** Any website, DM, or “airdrop checker” that asks for your seed phrase is trying to steal your coins. The pattern is as old as Bitcoin Cash. Don’t be the guy who loses real bitcoin to a fake fork.
And if you’re one of the few people actually moving big amounts: mind replay protection. A transaction valid on one chain can be valid on the other unless your wallet actively uses the fork’s protection scheme. When in doubt, hold large transfers until the dust settles — and hold your coins where only you control them. **The punchline**
Bitcoin told them no with 2.53% support and two blocks. Tomorrow they try again with an algorithm no miner on Earth can run, no exchange will list, and no wallet will touch. The main chain they call “spam” just posted its best month in 21 months while their testnet struggles to reach 70 TH/s of a 870 TH/s dream.

So who’s the spam now — the network that’s pumped 25% this month with a $1.5 trillion market cap behind it, or the fork that needed a second chance after mining two blocks?
