ROBINHOOD HOLDS 185,000 BITCOIN FOR YOU – TODAY IT BOUGHT 294 FOR ITSELF

Robinhood holds about 185,000 Bitcoin for other people.

That is roughly $15.5 billion of coins sitting in accounts that say "Robinhood" on the screen and "not yours" in the terms of service. You bought them through the app. You pay the spread. You pay the order flow. You do not hold the keys.

On Wednesday, Robinhood bought 294 Bitcoin for itself.

The Facts

At the Digital Asset Summit Asia on October 7, Robinhood’s Senior Vice President and General Manager of Crypto and International, Johann Kerbrat, told the room that the company had put $25 million of Bitcoin on its own corporate balance sheet. Its first proprietary Bitcoin purchase. At this week’s average price near $84,960, that is about 294 coins.

Kerbrat was blunt about the size: "The $25 million worth of bitcoin is not going to change a lot of the current trajectory of the company." He also handed over the real reason: "We care deeply about bitcoin and the ecosystem around it. For us, it’s more aligning our company and our vision with the crypto community."

Read that twice. $25 million against a market capitalization near $100 billion is 0.025 percent. It is not a treasury strategy. It is a press release with a wallet attached.

Meanwhile the coins Robinhood already holds – roughly 185,000 BTC, around $25 billion across chains by on-chain analysis – belong to customers. Those are yours. The 294 new ones are theirs. The company did not disclose an exact coin count, which is expected to show up in its next public filing.

Why This Is Your Problem

Notice what Robinhood did not do. It did not tell you to self-custody. It did not hand anyone keys. It bought Bitcoin for the company while keeping every customer’s Bitcoin exactly where it already was – inside the company.

That is the whole trick of this cycle. A brokerage gets to own the asset and the rails at the same time. It buys a headline-sized position for itself and calls it conviction. You get a login and a statement. Same word – Bitcoin – two completely different sets of rights.

And this is the same company whose own engineers were just charged with front-running customer trades through a secret Slack channel. The house has the answer sheet. You have the app.

The timing is even better. Robinhood’s announcement lands the same week Bitcoin liquidated $550 million of leveraged longs and dipped to an October low under $84,000. Corporate treasuries bought 334 BTC here and 2,000 BTC there, all of it funded by debt, preferred stock, or a rounding error of cash. None of it needs your permission. None of it protects you.

The Love Is Bitcoin Takeaway

A company buying Bitcoin for its balance sheet is not adoption. It is positioning. Adoption is when the person holding the coins can move them without asking anybody.

That is the difference between owning Bitcoin and owning a claim on Bitcoin – and it is the difference that matters when an exchange freezes withdrawals, when a zero-day hits a vendor, when a regulator calls, or when a board decides the treasury position was a mistake.

If you want Bitcoin, buy it and hold your own keys. Learn how Bitcoin wallets work before you trust an app that happens to display a price, and read what paper Bitcoin really gives you.

If you would rather buy Bitcoin without the casino attached – non-custodial, no order-flow games, no "we care deeply" press releases – that is what the coupon LOVEISBITCOIN and the link below are for:
